Burgewood Books is a specialist book publisher and online distributor offering titles that are not readily available elsewhere.  All these titles can be ordered from this website.

Our book list features author and historian, Don Charlwood. The topics of our books range from Australian history to the sailing ship era, immigration, and shipwrecks to personal remembrances of Australia in the 1920s and '30s and of the Second World War.

Burgewood Books specialises in books that explore the exciting and fascinating themes of sailing ships, journeys to Australia by sail, and the inevitable shipwrecks that occurred in this era.

Loch Ard Gorge

The only two survivors of the 1878 wreck of the Loch Ard were washed into this gorge - now known as Loch Ard Gorge - on the south-east coast of Australia.

Cape Wickham lighthouse

The Cape Wickham lighthouse - the tallest in the southern hemisphere - was built in 1861 on the northern tip of King Island to aid navigation through the treacherously narrow entrance to Bass Strait in south-east Australia

Our books are renowned for their background of thorough research, attention to detail, quality of indexing, and accessibility of writing. As a result our titles are highly sought after by genealogists, museums and libraries.

As many Australians are descended from those who left Britain by sailing ship, our books have become an excellent resource for those investigating their family history, or with an interest in what life was like for their ancestors on their long voyage. Many in the United States and Canada are descended from those who travelled to their new land by sailing ship, so our books are also of considerable interest in North America.
